Emmys viewers were very upset about this award win

Red carpet season is finally in full swing, after months of events being cancelled and pushed back. First we had the MTV VMAs, followed by the Met Gala. And now? The Emmys went down last night [19 September], awarding the best cast and crew across the world of TV.

While there were some predictably brilliant wins over the evening (oh hey, Mare Of Easttown), you only have to take one look at social media to reveal viewers were somewhat upset by one in particular. During one of the last gongs of the night, Hamilton won 'Outstanding Variety Special Pre-Recorded.'

And while many fans were over the moon for the Disney production, others thought Bo Burnham: Inside, a musical recorded from the comedian's home during lockdown, would've been a more worthy winner.

"I love Hamilton and am very happy for all of them but... Bo Burnham was robbed," one person wrote, while another put, "I never expected to be unhappy about Hamilton winning awards, but BO BURNHAM: INSIDE DESERVED THAT WIN."

Someone else said, "Look, I love Hamilton. You love Hamilton. But Bo Burnham wrote and performed a brilliant original one-man show from his home. Come on here."

Other shows that lost out in the category include the reunions of Friends and The West Wing, David Byrne's American Utopia and Dave Chappelle's 8:46.

Watch Bo Burnham: Inside on Netflix now.
