Soap stars are some of the most recognisable faces on telly, so it's perhaps no shocker that they're also among the highest earners in the industry.

The Emmerdale cast are some of the top earners in the biz, with veteran stars earning paychecks that could give Corrie or EastEnders' biggest names a run for their money.

Currently at the centre of the Dales drama is actor James Chase as his abuse story heightens, who is known for portraying character Tom King. And the star could be making anything from £400 to £2,000 per episode.

Here, OK! takes a look at which stars are reportedly cashing in the most...

Claire King - £230,000

Claire is the soap's top earner ever and ranks among the highest-paid soap actresses of all time. She's been portraying the legendary Kim Tate since 1989, took a break after a decade, and then returned to the fold in 2018, reports Leeds Live.

She's also a Strictly Come Dancing alum, having partnered with Brendan Cole in 2006, and appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, although she had to leave the Channel 4 reality series early for medical treatment. Besides Emmerdale, Claire has had roles in Bad Girls, Hollyoaks and rival ITV soap Coronation Street.

Chris Chittell - £200,000

Chris is another Emmerdale record-breaker, reigning as the longest-serving cast member in the soap's history. With a reported net worth of around £7 million, it's hardly surprising given his hefty £200,000 annual salary for portraying Eric Pollard, a role he's embraced since 1986.

Earlier this year, Chris inked a deal to extend his stay on the show for yet another year, and back in 2019, he was honoured with a British Empire Medal for his contributions to drama and charitable causes.

Emma Atkins - £200,000

Emma Atkins, the actress behind Charity Dingle since 2000, is said to be pocketing a cool £200,000 each year from her work on the beloved soap.

She temporarily left Emmerdale in 2005, only to return as the iconic troublemaker in 2009, and then took maternity leave after having her son in 2015. During her breaks from the Dales, Emma graced other shows including Dalziel and Pascoe, I'm with Stupid, New Street Law, Doctors, Casualty, and Heartbeat.

Jeff Hordley - £200,000

53 year old Jeff Hordley, famed for his portrayal of Emmerdale's resident tough guy Cain Dingle, reportedly commands an impressive £200,000 yearly salary. His fortune is estimated at around £3 million, bolstered by his DJ gigs at radio stations in Plymouth and Oldham.

"That has been my out-of-work acting job we were talking just earlier about being an actor, you always need something else. And DJing was always mine," he shared in a chat with Lorraine Kelly. Jeff enjoys a quiet life in West Yorkshire with his wife Zoe Henry, who stars as Rhona in the soap.

Lucy Pargeter - £170,000

Lucy, who plays the iconic Chas Dingle in Emmerdale, is another high earner with a salary of around £170,000. The actress, who joined the soap in 2002, reportedly has a net worth of approximately £3.9 million.
