'Emmerdale' stars back strong future for Liv and Vinny
Emmerdale actors Isobel Steele and Bradley Johnson are backing a strong romantic future for their characters Liv Flaherty and Vinny Dingle after a turbulent 12 months.
Speaking at a recent press event, Steele reveals: “I think the fact that [they’ve] stuck through everything means that [they] really are dedicated to each other.
“It’s not just a romantic thing that happens when you’re young, I think it’s a real feeling and a real relationship.”
Co-star Johnson agreed, adding that the relationship has 'gone from strength to strength' in the last few weeks.
“The couple have been through so much, and now they’ve just thought ‘let’s make a full go of it.’”
Vinny stood by Liv when she was falsely imprisoned for murdering Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon), who was actually killed by evil Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu).
Now it seems there are happier times ahead after a misunderstanding leads to a surprising development.

The story starts with Liv mistakenly believing Vinny is about to ask her to marry him at their Valentine’s Day picnic.
Steele says she doesn’t blame her alter ego for jumping to conclusions, as Vinny’s gift to Liv is “a pair of earrings in a jewellery box which very much looks like a ring.”
Johnson adds: “One thing about Vinny — he doesn’t think before he does things,” he explained. “And throwing a jewellery box around on Valentine’s Day, I can see why Liv [gets] the wrong end of the stick!”

Still, the mishap obviously inspires Vinny, as he organises a real proposal. Liv and Vinny later get engaged and decide to elope, and you’ll have to tune in to find out whether the wedding goes ahead.
But the stars say they originally had their hearts set on a classic Dingle celebration for the big day.
“When I read it I really wanted, like, a big Dingle wedding,” Johnson admits. “I thought if my character ever got married: get the welly out, everyone partying. But I also think on the other hand, it is quite romantic that the two are just going off by themselves.”

“I would have loved a big Dingle wedding,” added Steele. “But I think sometimes the romance can get lost between the characters when it’s such a big day.
“It’s sometimes really nice, like what happened with Robron [beloved Emmerdale couple Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden]. You know when they just had a private little thing and it was an engagement, small thing and then they had a big wedding.
"I quite liked that because the dialogue is right for the characters. It means you can really build a bit of trust and it’s quite special and intimate.”

Johnson notes that if Liv and Vinny do tie the knot, it would be an opportunity to “see what they’re like behind closed doors, a young couple being married and how they live together.”
“There isn’t [another] young couple in the show married,” Steele points out. “It’s such a good relationship, and people really back it.
“The audience love it, the writers like writing it clearly and we enjoy playing it, so I think that it works all round. We’re just happy to have a little bit of the happiness for now!”
