Emma Watson has joined the board of luxury fashion conglomerate Kering. The actress, who is an eco-fashion advocate, will sit as the chair of its sustainability committee, helping to oversee the environmental impact of brands such as Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Saint Laurent.

The actress has long been a champion of sustainable fashion, having supported environmentally friendly brands on the red carpet throughout her career, as well as being the face of Good On You app, which rates brands for its sustainability credentials.

Watson's appointment comes as the fashion industry undergoes significant changes as a result of sustainability with a number of Kering's brands throwing out the previous fashion calendar and opting to cut back on the number of collections they produce each year. Watson's appointment will no doubt show customers that the conglomerate is committed to making positive changes within the luxury fashion industry when it comes to climate change.

The actress is not the only new member of the board to have been voted in by shareholders.

Tidjane Thiam, former CEO of Credit Suisse Group and Jean Liu, the president of Didi Chuxing have also joined the company.

"Their respective knowledge and competences, and the multiplicity of their backgrounds and perspectives will be invaluable additions," Kering chairman and CEO François-Henri Pinault said of the appointments.
