Eminem has issued an apology to Rihanna, following the leaking of an old song last year where he appeared to side with Chris Brown.

Rihanna and Brown dated from 2007 to 2009 and then again in 2012. In 2009, following a party, Brown assaulted Rihanna in his car, leaving her with visible bruising, swelling and a split lip on her face which made high-profile news at the time. Brown was ordered to do community service and received five years probation.

Last November, a song allegedly by Eminem - real name Marshall Mathers - made ten years earlier, shortly after the assault, leaked - which contained the lyric: 'Of course I side with Chris Brown, I'd beat a b*tch down too.'

At the time, it was reported that the leaked song, which was never released, was obtained illegally. Shortly afterwards, Eminem clarified through his manager: 'This is a leak of something that’s over 10 years old. After Eminem recorded it, he scrapped it, and rewrote it. Obviously he and Rihanna have a great relationship.’

Now, the 48-year-old rapper has released another track from his upcoming album, Music To Be Murdered, 'Zeus' which contains an outright apology to the Fenty designer, reports the BBC.

'And wholeheartedly apologies Rihanna for that song that leaked/I'm sorry, Rih, it wasn't meant to cause you grief. Regardless, it was wrong of me' the lyric says.

Rihanna and Eminem had collaborated several times, before the lyric was released, most notably on the hit singles, 'Monster' and 'Love The Way You Lie'.
