Netflix 'Emily in Paris' Season 2: Lily Collins channels Grace Kelly travelling to Saint-Tropez

While Darren Star's Emily in Paris takes us on a tour of France’s largest city, Season 2 of the Netflix show (released Dec. 22 at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET) gave stars Lily Collins, Ashley Park and Camille Razat the ultimate girls trip to Saint-Tropez to welcome them back to set.

“I didn't even, as a French person, ever get to Saint-Tropez so it was interesting even for me,” Razat told Yahoo Canada.

“It was the nicest part because we got to see each other after a year and a half of COVID, so just to get to see the girls in the flesh was a blast for me.”

How does this girls trip even happen? When Emily’s (Collins) plans to spend some time with Mathieu Cadault (Charles Martins) don’t go as planned, leaving her alone on a train to Saint-Tropez, Camille (Razat) says she’ll head to the southern France region to spend some time with her friend (on Mathieu’s dime) as a way to keep her mind off her now ex-boyfriend Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) staying in Paris.

Having just shared an intimate night with Gabriel, thinking she would never see him, Emily calls Mindy (Park) to act as a buffer between her and Camille as she tries to keep her tryst with Gabriel a secret.

Collins, who not only stars as Emily in the show but also serves as a producer, said it was a “joy” to have more scenes with Razat and Park in Season 2, particularly with a trip to Saint-Tropez.

Park, who plays Mindy, said the outrageous aspects from the script for this episode in particular, like a flying saxophone player hovering over a pool, were as new for them in real life as it was for their characters.

“I think that was an improv line when I come on, and I’m like,...’what the hell is that guy doing?” she explained.

“I just remember us three dancing around… It's so fun to share those memories together, because I couldn't describe it to anybody else so it's so fun to have friends there to experience it with.”

Emily channels Grace Kelly travelling to Saint-Tropez

One aspect of Emily in Paris that certainly can’t be underestimated is the fashion, led by costume designers Patricia Field and Marylin Fitoussi.

For the Saint-Tropez episode in particular, Emily’s outfit is an homage to Grace Kelly and introduces us to one of Emily’s new accessories throughout the season, gloves that are reminiscent of 1950s and 1960s elegance.

Field has actually said that part of the glove trend for Emily comes from her own personal love of the accessory.

'Discomfort' of high heels brings Sylvie to life

With an impressive list of designer pieces showcased in Season 2 of Emily in Paris, Fitoussi said her “challenge” was combining couture pieces with young designers, vintage items and even pieces from H&M and Zara.

The list of designers whose pieces are used in Emily in Paris has impressive range, from Balmain, Prada, Alaïa, Isabel Marant, AMI, Zadig and Voltaire, to Charles de Vilmorin, EGONlab., Victor Weinsanto and Solène Lescouët.

For Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu who plays Sylvie on the show, fashion definitely helps her get into character.

She revealed to Yahoo Canada that it’s actually the shoes, in particular, that really help her take that step into Sylvie.

“I'm a lot into shoes because I always feel that this discomfort that she has with high heels, it's totally Sylvie,” the actor explained to Yahoo Canada.

“Having your feet kind of compressed in there, it’s really her, she's in a constraint, always.”

That's particularly important when the Saint-Tropez episode of Emily in Paris comes up, where Emily unexpectedly sees Sylvie in a far more relaxed, free state.

Sylvie's in clothing with far more relaxed fits in Saint-Tropez, or even in just a bathing suit, barefoot on the sand. This is just the start of seeing a slightly more relaxed version of Sylvie at certain times throughout Season 2.
