Emilia Clarke made a faux pas when she met the Duke of Cambridge

Emilia Clarke has revealed that all did not go to plan when she met the Duke of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace. The Game of Thrones actress confessed that she made a bit of a faux pas because she was so nervous.

"It's a frightening thing going to the palace," she said on an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. "There's a whole...thing."

"I was just relaxing and they [said], 'Prince William is coming,' so I was like, 'Oh cool, great'. I’m really relaxed and everything is going to be fine. They were like, 'You can’t turn your back,' so I was like, 'No worries,' and they said: 'You have to address him as your Royal Highness. Then after that you can call him Prince William and there’s lots of formalities that you need to kind of adhere to.'"

Clarke went on to explain that she was so nervous that she completely messed up even the first rule of saying his name correctly.

"For whatever reason, maybe because I was so scared, I couldn’t manage to get out 'Your Royal Highness', so it was kind of like 'ra… ra…', it was pretty much all I managed."

Despite this, Clarke joked that she was surprised not to be invited to the royal wedding.

"I genuinely, sadly was not at the royal wedding, but I feel like I really should have been. I was there in spirit."
