Elton John's bespoke outfits go on display in Savile Row tailor Richard James

Bespoke outfits made for Sir Elton John went on display today in Savile Row.

The star has frequented the Richard James store in Mayfair for more than 20 years. The contemporary tailor has made him clothes ranging from tailcoats covered in crystals worn to play Las Vegas, to pink and yellow two-piece “Dot” suits for the Grammys.

To mark the worldwide release next week of biopic Rocketman, Sir Elton has lent five outfits back to the tailor for a one-off, month-long “fashion showcase”. Mr James has co-curated with Swarovski.

The star said: “I remember the first time I met Richard. I’d popped into the Joseph men’s shop and was bowled over by the most striking sunflower ties.

“I flipped them over to see the eponymous label ‘Richard James Savile Row’. Savile Row?! I hadn’t seen anything this fresh in years. Naturally, I got the address and headed there immediately.”

Richard James said: “It’s special to dress Elton because he has a great sense of fun.”

A limited run of T-shirts, all with a Swarovski crystal rocket emblem, will be on sale at the store for £175 during the run. The exhibit opens today.
