Normally, ripping through a delicious new TV show means having to contend with an especially cruel hangover: the yearish-long wait to see what happens next. But just like its sly titular character, Netflix’s sleeper hit Lupin has a surprise up its sleeve. On Friday, Netflix dropped the trailer for Part 2 of the French heist show and announced that the next five episodes will premiere later this summer. Lupin tells the story of Assane Diop (Omar Sy), a French-Senegalese man who lives a double life as a successful con artist. Inspired by author Maurice Leblanc’s popular French fictional character Arsène Lupin, Assane is a “gentleman thief” who levels up from casual heists to revenge plot as he works to fight an injustice that occurred decades before. The trailer for the second instalment seems to pick up right where we left off (a torturously emotional cliffhanger). Now that Pelligrini has Assane’s son in his clutches and plans to use him as bait, his father has no choice but go embark on a Taken-esque mission to save him. The pandemic has already had a significant impact on what young people want from their careers, according to a new survey. Around two-thirds of young people in the UK and US who responded to the survey said their work expectations and career aspirations have changed because of Covid-19. Among young people who have rethought their career plans, 33% said they are now looking a better work-life balance, while 28% said they are now hoping to achieve greater financial security. The survey by Liberty Communications and Opinium also highlights the extent to which the so-called “dream job” now seems increasingly out of reach for many members of Gen Z. Just 52% of young people said they are currently scaling the career ladder they want to be on, while 39% said they doubted they would ever achieve their ideal career. Elena Davidson, CEO of Liberty Communications, said in response to the survey’s findings: “It’s clear that more and more young people in both countries are entering the workplace not only with altered priorities, but also with an increased uncertainty that they are in the right role.” The survey also highlights the difficulties of finding employment during the pandemic. Some 96% of young people said they had faced difficulties in applying for jobs. In the UK, 42% said the sheer number of people applying for each role was a problem, while 31% said virtual interviews made it hard to establish a connection with prospective employers. “The research shows that COVID-19 has drastically changed the landscape for young people and that money is no longer the main factor for incoming professionals across the UK and US,” said James Endersbury at Opinium. “As such, we would advise employers that they need to adapt their recruitment strategies to ensure they remain attractive to this next generation of talent.” Like what you see? According to a recent survey, nearly half of employees would look for a new job if they were denied the option of flexible working post-lockdown. Even before the pandemic, the majority of Brits said they thought flexible working was the future, so it’s clearly going to be a priority as we aim to achieve a better work-life balance. With this in mind, it’s definitely interesting to check out new research revealing the UK’s best cities for flexible working. The team at Ready Steady Store compiled the list by taking six key factors into consideration. These included the average rental cost of a two-bed flat, the availability of 5G in the area, the average cost of living, the range of parks nearby, and the local life satisfaction. They also factored in the number of remote jobs within a 25-mile radius so that office days wouldn’t need to involve too lengthy a commute. Bradford finishes top of the list thanks to a relatively low cost of living and a high number of remote jobs within a 25-mile radius. Crucially, the West Yorkshire city is located just 10 miles away from Leeds, a major employment hub. Stoke and Newcastle finished second on the list, while London manages to sneak into the top 10. Though the cost of living and renting in the capital is obviously astronomical, it benefits from the highest number of remote jobs. Warning: The most major spoilers ahead for WandaVision season 1 finale, “Series Finale.” In the wake of the WandaVision season 1 finale, “Series Finale,” Twitter was left awash with tears. As star Teyonah Parris teased last month, the episode was “epic and incredibly sad.” Protagonist Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) spends the finale battling scheming baddie Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn); “New” Vision (Paul Bettany) fights White Vision (Paul Bettany, again), allowing the characters’ portrayer, Paul Bettany, to live out his most extravagant acting dreams. The heroes win the day. Yet, in a gutting-but-foreseeable twist, Wanda must dismantle Westview for good — and therefore lose Vision and their two children together, Tommy (Jett Klyne) and Billy (Julian Hilliard), in the process. Like any immaculate Westview home or the ever-evolving town movie theater, Vision, Tommy, and Billy are all connected to the chaos magic that made Wanda’s version of her sitcom paradise possible. In the final, sob-inducing main section of “Series Finale,” Wanda mourns the imminent death of the family of her creation. In a flash, she finds herself back in the empty brown lot that was meant to be the start of her beautiful life with Vision. Despite the sadness of WandaVision’s ending — series insiders like director Matt Shakman have said there are “no plans” for a second season “at all” — “Series Finale” still gives you reason to hope. WandaVision is done, but the finale promises, in ways big and small, that we will see Wanda and her lost love Vision back together again. That possibility, more than anything, is the ultimate aim of WandaVision. Vision himself gives the strongest defence of Wanda and Vision’s continued Marvel Cinematic Universe romance in his “farewell” speech to Wanda. As the Hex closes in on itself, “New” Vision — now totally aware that he is not the reanimated corpse of the Original Vision, but something else entirely — asks Wanda what he is. She explains he is her “sadness,” “hope,” and (mostly) “love” made flesh and wires, through the power of the piece of the Mind Stone that lives inside of her. “I have been a voice with no body. A body, but not human. And now, a memory made real,” Vision responds, looking back on his journey through the MCU. “Who knows what I might be next?” If the MCU didn’t really want you to invest in the likelihood of seeing Vision again, it would have stopped the optimistic theorising between WandaVision’s lovers here. “Series Finale” does not. “We have said ‘goodbye’ before. So it stands to reason…” Vision begins. Wanda finishes his sentence, adding, “…We’ll say ‘hello’ again.” Vision is a computer-made man. He can do probabilities. If he believes in this possibility enough to allow it to be his parting words to the love of his life, he is not speaking without pragmatic facts to back him up. Wanda and Vision, in some form or another, will see each other again. “Series Finale” offers up a few hints about what could be next for these characters. In the mid-point of the episode, White Vision (whose body is that of the Original MCU Vision) and New Vision debate what would make either of them truly Vision. “Memories” is the answer they settle upon. New Vision offers to restore the memories that already exist in White Vision’s wiring and systems. White Vision accepts, and is flooded with the recollections of his past with Wanda. The faux chip in the centre of his head momentarily turns yellow like the Mind Stone of Original Vision; his eyes go from detached ice blue to a techy aquamarine to, finally, a creepily human blue. “I am Vision,” White Vision announces before flying out of Westview, clearly no longer under the control of S.W.O.R.D. or the villainous Tyler Hayward (Josh Stamberg). It is unclear if White Vision can feel the effects of his memories, or if he is merely able to process them like a computer. Yet, there is now a version of Vision walking around the MCU with a solid understanding of his and Wanda’s star-crossed love story. This development is a good starting point for Wanda, who is left believing everyone she has ever loved is dead and gone when “Series Finale” closes. If Wanda doesn’t want White Vision — and instead prefers the companionship of Westview’s darling, dead Vision — the WandaVision post-credits scene gives us an inkling that her creations from that reality are not gone forever. In the absolute final shot of “Series Finale,” Wanda, now fully dedicated to her Scarlett Witch studies, hears Tommy and Billy call for help from some alternate dimension or timeline (the closed captions specifically credit the characters for these screams). If Wanda can connect with the children she birthed through chaos magic — why not her husband? As Vision now famously asked in WandaVision’s penultimate episode, “What is grief, if not love persevering?” No one knows how to keep that love alive (and turn it back into life) better than Wanda Maximoff. In one of the many TikToks to take the internet by storm this week, a woman living in New York City discovered a sinister hidden passageway through her bathroom mirror. In a four-part video, user @samanthartsoe showed TikTokers her discovery and her exploration of what appeared to be an entire secret, possibly abandoned apartment on the other side of her wall. If this sounds like something out of a nightmare to you, that’s because it often is one. During a Slack discussion about the cursed TikToks, a full 20% of people in my channel copped to dreaming about uncovering hidden corridors or finding surprise rooms in their homes. And after poking around a little, I found that these dreams are far more common than you might think — and they usually mean something. “Our dreams are mirrors that can help us to live our dream life,” says Stephanie Gailing, dream analyst and author of The Complete Book of Dreams. “They serve as a magnifying glass, highlighting thoughts and feelings that may not be clearly visible to our waking mind.” Gailing says that once we’re able to identify what our dream are revealing, we can navigate our lives with more clarity. Finding a secret passageway or room in your house can be interpreted as an invitation to explore an unexplored part of yourself, or of someone around you, and to be open to new experiences coming your way, Gailing says. “If I had that dream, especially if I had that dream numerous times, I’d ask, ‘What am I not looking at? What can I explore, what’s behind the wall?'” How you feel while you’re dreaming and after you wake up can also point to different meanings. If you feel upbeat, the dream is probably about an area of your life that you feel eager to learn more about. You may be taking on a new role at work that you’re excited about, for instance. If the secret room theme comes to you in a nightmare, though, that can indicate that you’re afraid something in your real life is being hidden from you; or that you’re nervous about what you might find out when you start digging around. The dream is likely about something that’s been on your mind anyway. In the context of a relationship, for instance, dreaming about a secret room might be a sign that your partner is helping you learn more about yourself or just offering you the space to grow — or, if the imagery has been coming up in a more nightmare-ish way, that you want to grow but feel confined by your partner. Gailing says that other questions that might be helpful in interpreting a secret space dream include: Where does this new passageway take you? What were the details of the room, or did it lead to somewhere else? Did you stop yourself from going through the door? Did you feel scared or excited or resourceful enough to go through it? Again, you’re looking for signals that might indicate where in your life you’re uncovering fears, learning more about your own desires, or aching to grow and expand, she explains. Where you’re finding this hidden room matters, too. “If you’re in your own home, maybe it would say that there’s something in your own turf or the places that feel more close to you that you can discover something is hidden,” she says. “If it’s in some foreign or unknown place, then it may be a more generic concern or focus, rather than something more internal and more emotional.” Gailing watched the viral TikTok video, and has some thoughts if your dreams have had a similar vibe (or similar uncovered passage). “Let’s say you have a dream where you’re curious what’s on the other side but there’s a lot of energy around squeezing yourself into this space to get there, and then maybe in that moment there’s a question, it’s a choice — can I do it?” she says, referring to video three, in which @samanthartsoe crawls through the hole in her wall. “Like that girl in the video, she still went for it and figured out a way to manoeuvre that.” If a similar event happened in your dream, it could be a sign that you feel obstructed by something in your real life — and that your psyche is trying to use your knowledge, passion, or know-how to navigate through the barrier. Dream analysis is somewhat subjective, so everyone’s secret room vision likely means something a little different and personal to them. Interpreting dreams is also not a science. Nevertheless, many find that it’s a useful way to tune into their subconscious and intuit guidance that can help them in their waking lives.
