While she's known for incredible musical performances, Ellie Goulding has revealed she hopes to turn her hand to acting. The singer expressed her wish to add a new spin to her CV and perform on stage in the West End.
"I acted a lot when I was young and I really enjoyed it. I loved playing different characters," she explained. "It's probably a very different kind of confidence from being on stage. But I'd like to see if I've still got it. I would probably be in a play. I've seen a lot of plays in the last couple of years in London and I'd like to start there."
But unlike Rihanna and Rita Ora before her, Goulding said that she didn't feel a blockbuster film would be the right move for her yet. Instead, the 33-year-old hopes to follow in the footsteps of comedy actress Julia Davis.
“My hero is Julia Davis from Nighty Night," she said. "She used to work with Ruth Jones and Steve Coogan and all those guys. I’d love to be in some dark comedy or something like that.”
With theatres currently closed, the star is happy to keep her focus on making music. She released her fourth album, 'Brightest Blue', in July after five years away from the public spotlight.
In a recent interview, Goulding told Bazaar that she's learned about herself during lockdown. "I’ve learnt how patient and resilient I can be," she said. "It [lockdown] has been such a rollercoaster for all of us, so it’s been interesting to find out small habits and behaviours that I didn’t know I had until this opportunity of being alone."
