Ellie Goulding’s mother has said she is “deeply hurt” after the singer claimed their relationship had broken down and described her as “threatening”.
The Love Me Like You Do singer said in a recent interview that she hadn’t seen her mum Tracey for a year, and that their relationship “isn’t fixable”.
Tracey, 56, has now told the Mail Online: “It's very, very upsetting. I don't know what to say. I am not that type of person.
“I really, really don't know what she is referring to and where the word threatening has come from.”
Goulding – one of four siblings – had said: “It’s frustrating, because I really want to talk to you about it. But she became quite threatening when I did talk about her in the press.”
Tracey said: “I don't know what she is talking about. I don't think Ellie has ever spoken about me in the press so I don't know what I could become threatening about. I think it must have been twisted or taken out of context because I have not got a threatening bone in my body.
“I think she knows she can rely on me not to say anything, she's my daughter. I have three other children, we're a happy family. It's just ridiculous. I put a brave face on and I am smiling now but quite frankly I am deeply hurt.”
Goulding, 33, married art dealer Caspar Jopling in August 2019 and said she has not seen her mother since the wedding.
Tracey said she had just received a bouquet of flowers from the Power singer to mark her birthday, but had had no explanation for the comments that surfaced in the press this week.
She added: “She is rather busy with her album and this is the last thing on her mind.”
Goulding wrote on her Instagram Stories that she is “only ever eager to talk about my music”, and said stories about her private life had been “sensationalised”.
Earlier this year her mother became embroiled in a Twitter racism row with I’m A Celebrity and X Factor star Myles Stephenson.
Tracey Goulding tweeted in January: “Didn't notice it so much on jungle but what's with #myles #gmb trying to sound like a black dude??"
Stephenson, 28, replied: "Please tell me what a 'black dude' sounds like Trace? I'll be sure to tell my 'black' side of my family that I sound like them! They'll be happy! 2020 and racism already starting.”
