It has been just two weeks since the city of Beirut was rocked by a devastating explosion, which saw at least 168 people die and many thousands more injured, while homes across the capital were destroyed, including that of fashion designer Elie Saab.
Speaking to The Business of Fashion, the designer has opened up about the experience
"I saw my son covered in blood, I could not believe it," Saab explained. "I said okay, he is wounded, but it was okay, it was just cuts to his head and arms, but it was 15 minutes that felt like two days long. It was not just because it is a father and son thing, it was because we all work together like one family under one roof."
Saab's main office and headquarters were left badly damaged by the explosion, while his home was completely destroyed. Despite this though, the designer and his team plan to get back to work this week in order to finish the collection for the September show.
"We must go on. It does not become us as Lebanese to give up. That is the doable part. But the biggest loss is the people you can't bring back."
