Ed Sheeran set for copyright trial in US over the song 'Thinking Out Loud'
Ed Sheeran is apparently facing trial in America over claims he took bits of 2014's Thinking Out Loud from a Marvin Gaye song.
The chart-topper's lawyers had tried to have claims that he copied from Gaye's Let's Get It On dismissed.
However, according to reports a judge in Manhattan denied the bid to dismiss the copyright infringement case, which was brought by Structured Asset Sales LLC.

The company owns some of the estate of Ed Townsend, who wrote the 1973 hit Let's Get It On with Gaye, who died in 1984.
The judge said the case would be heard before a jury who will decide on how similar the two songs are.
It comes just months after the star had to fight a copyright lawsuit over his number one hit song Shape Of You.
There were claims that Sheeran and his songwriting partners Johnny McDaid and Steven McCutcheon took part of their track from Sami Chokri and Ross O’Donoghue’s 2015 song Oh Why.
However, in April the star won his court battle, with a judge saying that Sheeran “neither deliberately nor subconsciously” plagiarised the track.
In a joint statement afterwards, Sheeran, McDaid and McCutcheon referenced the impact on their mental health.
They said: "There was a lot of talk throughout this case about cost. But there is more than just a financial cost.
“There is a cost on creativity. When we are tangled up in lawsuits, we are not making music or playing shows. There is a cost on our mental health. The stress this causes on all sides is immense.

“It affects so many aspects of our everyday lives and the lives of our families and friends. We are not corporations. We are not entities. We are human beings. We are songwriters."
Yahoo has contacted representatives for Sheeran for comment.
