Back in February, a chilling flashforward sequence saw Linda Carter, Suki Panesar, Stacey Slater, Denise Fox, Sharon Watts and Kathy Beale looming over a male corpse in The Vic, leading to ongoing speculation and theories.
However, some viewers think that Walford villain Ravi Gulati is safe.
Next month will see a secret child story for Ravi, as his ex-girlfriend Priya arrives with their daughter Avani.
As a result, there is speculation that this storyline will make Ravi too important a character to be killed off in just a few months' time.
"Okay, with Ravi's ex and kid coming, I highly doubt he's the body, but I can't help but feel Nish is going and maybe even before Christmas," said one person on Twitter/X.
"OMG! Well, this is a turn-up for the books," said another. "My initial reaction was that it can't be Ravi @AaronThiara that gets killed at Xmas (not that I want it to be), or they wouldn't be bringing them in, would they?"
A third wrote: "This is exciting... Ravi can't be on the floor now, surely??"
And yet, a fourth EastEnders fan offered an alternate take.
"Sorry, but Ravi suddenly having a secret daughter doesn't automatically rule him out as being the Christmas body. The way things are going currently, he's definitely still very much in the running, that's for sure," said the post.
Earlier this week, Suki Panesar actress Balvinder Sopal heaped praise on the soap's Christmas storyline.
"The fact that EastEnders is matching Suki up with other members of the Walford community as part of 'The Six' is absolutely brilliant, and the fact they are all women is amazing. It bumps up that sisterhood feeling, and it puts powerful women at the forefront of storytelling about connection, friendship and love," she said.
"I think it's really important to see strong bonds between these women where they can support and help each other through difficult times."
EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
