EastEnders confirms cameo from Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders has announced a cameo from Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall for a Jubilee special episode.

The royals toured the new EastEnders set back in March, and it turns out it was more than just a visit, as Charles and Camilla also managed to film scenes for what will certainly be a very festive few days in Walford.

With Mick Carter having announced plans to throw a party for The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, he'll hint in upcoming scenes that there may be some special guests dropping by.

A surprise visit from Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall will be a thrill for Linda Carter as she gets to show them around the Square – especially since she's a super-fan of the royals.

"I did think what amazing sports that they are just willing to do it," said Kellie Bright, who plays Linda. "I just thought: 'Wow, they've never done anything like this before'.

"They didn't really know what to expect. I mean, it must have been nerve-wracking for them and completely out of their norm. So I just hope they enjoyed it as much as we did!"

These special scenes will be broadcast as part of a celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee, airing on BBC One on Thursday, 2 June.

"We are truly honoured to have both The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall appear in what is set to be one of EastEnders' most special episodes," producer Chris Clenshaw said.

"Linda Carter is naturally in her element and giddy with excitement as their Royal Highnesses arrive in Walford – but it wasn't just her as, for all of us at EastEnders, it was an extremely special day that will go down in EastEnders' history."

The royal couple join other notable figures who've guest starred in EastEnders, including current prime minister Boris Johnson (who cameoed when he was mayor of London), Robbie Williams, Spice Girls star Emma Bunton, and The Apprentice's Lord Sugar, who joined the cast for a Children in Need special in 2012.
