EastEnders schoolgirl Amy Mitchell will be rushed to hospital next week, as her sad story continues.

The BBC soap has recently confirmed a self-harm storyline for Amy, who is struggling following her recent split from Denzel Danes and the false rumours spreading around school about them sleeping together.

Show bosses have been working with charities on the emotional new plot, which began subtly last month when Amy appeared to be hiding something from her stepmum Denise.

As Jack gears up to learn whether he will lose his job, Amy feels guilty about reporting his attack on Denzel in the first place, despite reassurance from Denise.

Worried about his daughter, Jack attempts to ask a hostile Howie to allow Denzel and Amy to spend time together again but gets shut down.

Kim insists that Howie must start building bridges with Jack, but he voices his concerns over his recent behaviour.

At The Vic, Jack and Denise convince Howie that Amy is getting lots of adult support already and he agrees to let Denzel see her after all.

Denzel finds Amy in the café, and they have a heart-to-heart, but their chat is interrupted by Nugget.

He mistakenly tells Amy that Jack has been fired, and at home, a distraught Amy self-harms.

Jack is worried to get a call to say Amy missed her therapy session and he and Denise rush home to see an ambulance loading Amy in.

Devastated, Jack promises Amy everything will be okay and keeps a vigil at her bedside when they get to hospital.

A nurse later tells Jack and Denise that Amy must see a psychiatrist before being discharged.

Jack is overcome with emotion when Amy wakes up and tearfully tells his daughter that he can't lose her.

Denzel also reaches out to Amy afterwards, and they meet for a tentative conversation.

During an emotional chat, Amy asks if they can get back together, but what will Denzel say?

Sam, meanwhile, is also struggling with Amy's accident and the fact her son Ricky was left alone to deal with it.

Although Jack tries to comfort Ricky over the upsetting situation, the youngster chooses to spend time with Sam instead.

Things begin to look up for the family when Jack gets the news that he is being reinstated at work.

Kim decides to bring the family together by throwing a surprise dinner, but Denise and Jack are horrified to find her chaos in their home.

They also worry that Amy will struggle with having everyone there, especially Denzel.

It seems they were right to be concerned when a tactless moment from Kim sees Amy storm off, but can her family support her?

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show is currently dropping early release episodes on BBC iPlayer.
