Eamonn Holmes announced that he is going to become a granddad live during today’s episode of This Morning (7 April).

The ITV presenter explained that his eldest son Declan (from his marriage before Ruth Langsford) was expecting a baby with his wife Jenny.

Showing a photograph of the smiling couple, Eamonn said, “I’ve been in tears, I’ve been in tears again because it involves these two people here…they have just announced that I, together with Valerie and Robin, Jenny’s mum and dad, and Gabrielle, Declan’s mummy, we’re all going to be grandparents!”

He announced the news while sitting alongside his wife Ruth who clapped and smiled while music repeating the word "grandad” played over the studio.

Earlier today Eamonn hinted at his big news by posting a black and white photo of himself holding a finger to his lips saying, “Ssshhh…need to tell you something but not until 11 o’clock on This Morning.”

He added that “recent times have been tough but I have news that I know will make the future brighter,” leaving followers to speculate what it could be.

Ruth posted also shared the same photo with the caption, “don’t miss Eamonn Holmes’ big announcement,” tagging him in the post.

Some guessed the presenter could have been announcing his retirement while others speculated about whether he might be returning in a more regular presenting role on This Morning.

Instead, it was something much more personal and Eamonn was clearly emotional about sharing such exciting news after what has been a difficult past year for everyone.
