Eamonn Holmes 'angry' after being 'blindsided' by Ruth Langsford 'making their split public'

Eamonn Holmes was reportedly "angry" after it was revealed on Saturday that his 14-year marriage to Ruth Langsford had come to an end, with no explanation given for their separation.

A spokesperson told The Sun at the time: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

It has now been claimed that Eamonn, 64, only found out about the statement shortly before it was released, and he had "no power over it" with Ruth's team being solely behind writing and releasing it.

A pal of Eamonn was quoted in the Mail saying: "Eamonn was left blindsided, it was awful for him. He literally found out about it a very short time before it was published – you're talking hours.

"It all seems a little bizarre given that the statement said they were hoping to keep it amicable. Eamonn wanted no part of it, he couldn't see any reason why you would release that statement. It was wholly written and signed off by Ruth and her team. In the end he had no power over it whatsoever."

OK! has contacted representatives for Eamonn Holmes for comment.

Ruth, 64, who shares 21 year old son Jack with Eamonn, is yet to publicly address the split. However, Eamonn briefly mentioned the separation on GB News on Tuesday, 28 May upon his return to work after the bank holiday.

He said on his morning show, which he co-hosts with Isabel Webster: "Just before we move on we'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

While a reason for their divorce has not yet been revealed by Ruth nor Eamonn, a number of reports are swirling on what caused the relationship's demise. Claiming that Eamonn's health battle has played a large part in the relationship, one source has explained that Ruth felt more a 'carer' than wife.

Eamonn has been battling chronic back pain after undergoing spinal surgery in 2022 and a double-hip replacement in 2016. A friend of the couple has now claimed: "Ruth has become more his carer than a wife. Eamonn has been thoroughly miserable."

Talking to MailOnline, they continued: "He has had a torrid time with his health, he's in constant pain, and the truth is he can't contain how miserable it makes him."
