Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Explains Why He Pees in Water Bottles During His Workouts

·2-min read

After years of speculation, we finally have a definitive answer on why Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson pees in a bottle when he works out. For those who need a recap, back in 2017, the Black Adam actor accidentally revealed the bizarre gym habit in an Instagram video. Realising that a bottle of urine was in shot halfway through the clip, DJ briefly explained that he "doesn’t have time" to stop for a bathroom break mid-workout.

Not only has The Rock finally made clear his stance on the situation, but he also, crucially, explained precisely what kind of bottles he elects to pee in: "I do pee in my water bottles, but let me give context to that," the action star told Esquire in a recent interview. "It’s not a water bottle that I’ve actually purchased solely for water that you wash and clean when you’re done using it. These are just bottles that I’m no longer using." (continued below)

Which begs the obvious question: why? "Usually the gyms that I work out in don’t have a bathroom because they’re the iron paradise," he continued. "They’re just hot, sweaty and dirty." Since he "usually stays pretty hydrated," Johnson "needs to go to the bathroom a lot", he added, clarifying: "Not a lot, but probably a couple of times during every workout I have to go to the bathroom. So, I break out the bottle."

Fair play, DJ. When you have to go, you have to go. Peeing in a bottle isn't exactly ideal, but it's probably far healthier for your bladder than holding it in – especially when you back yourself as a self-styled "hardest worker in the room". We won't ask how he disposes of the bottle afterwards... sometimes it's better not knowing.
