Dwayne Johnson Shares How He Builds Massive Legs

Dwayne Johnson is at it again. Not content with training ‘harder than ever’ to portray superhero Black Adam on the big screen, he's back in the Iron Paradise and grinding through another late night session. This time, tackling a high-volume leg session.

In a Reel posted to Johnson's Instagram page, the actor, producer and businessman can be seen working his way through a ‘giant set’ leg workout – where he completes four rounds of four leg exercises back-to-back. As if that wasn't enough, he also finishes each of his giant sets with 15-20 reps of belted squats.

‘Late night grind. Legs,’ Johnson wrote in the caption to his post. ‘4 giant sets ending with 15-20 reps (or till failure) of belt squats. Giant sets = 4 rounds of 4 exercises back to back w/ no rest between exercises. Rest period between sets no more than 90 seconds. Push yourself for a 3-5 count negative and always control the weight.’

‘Burn is incredible,’ he added, while also revealing that his legs were ‘completely on fire’.

Johnson's decision to finish his sets with belt squats is one we applaud. Belted squats are a fantastic substitution for barbell back squats, should you want a more quad-dominant exercise and wish to take the load off your upper back. They also allow for a similar movement pattern as the back squat, promote good range of movement and can be loaded up some serious weight.
