Dustin Johnson cruises to FedEx Cup championship, $15M prize
Dustin Johnson’s already significant career earnings got a big boost on Monday.
The 36-year-old PGA Tour veteran secured victory at the Tour Championship on Monday, shooting a 2-under 68 at East Lake for a -21 tally on the week after a staggered start, three strokes better than runners-up Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele.
In the process, Johnson secured the FedEx Cup title and the $15 million payday that comes with it, adding to his career tally of $67.6 million. The title is the first for Johnson, who has 23 career PGA Tour wins and a U.S. Open title on his resumé.
He capped off the tournament and the season with a birdie.

Johnson’s strong season finish
The victory also caps a remarkable 2020 run that saw him tally five top-two finishes since the PGA’s restart in June, including three victories and a second-place finish at the U.S. Open. Since that runner-up finish, Johnson won the Northern Trust, lost in a playoff to John Rahm at the BMW Championship and won this week’s Tour Championship in Atlanta.
He was matter-of-fact after securing the title.
"I wanted to be a FedEx Cup champion,” Johnson said. “It was something that, in my career, I wanted to be. And obviously today I got the FedEx Cup."
Johnson held on Monday after entering the day with a five-stroke lead over Thomas and Schauffele. Both golfers made up ground on Johnson after he posted consecutive bogeys on seven and eight. But Johnson fired a bogey-free back nine to secure the win and the tour title.
