The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have shared a tribute to the Queen today (21 April) in honour of her 96th birthday.

Prince William and Kate shared two photographs and a sweet message on social media in honour of Her Majesty’s special day.

In a caption on the royal couple’s official Instagram, the pair said the Queen was an “inspiration.”

The message read, “Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very happy 96th birthday today!” before describing her as, “An inspiration to so many across the UK, the Commonwealth and the world,” and said it was “particularly special” to be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee this year.

Two photographs were shared in the tribute. The first was a relatively recent image of the Duke and Duchess in conversation alongside the Queen at an outdoor event. The second was an adorable photograph of the Queen and the late Duke of Edinburgh sitting on a sofa together alongside their great grandchildren.

Princess Charlotte sits between Her Majesty and Prince Philip waving sweetly to the camera while Prince George stands smiling on the other side of the Queen, with five other great-grandchildren gathered around in the happy portrait.

Prince Charles also paid tribute to Her Majesty’s birthday this morning, with a smiling photograph of the Queen shared to the official Clarence House Instagram account.

Also included were a selection of other images, including one of Prince Charles kissing his mother’s hand and another of the Duchess of Cornwall and the Queen smiling together with bouquets of flowers in their hands.

Members of the public were quick to offer their best wishes on the Queen’s birthday, leaving happy birthday comments on both posts.
