The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have shared an unseen photo of Prince Louis to thank those who sent messages on his 2nd birthday in April.

The picture, which appeared on the front of a card, was shared by a royal fan account based in Germany.

A message on the card read: 'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appreciated your kind thought in writing to Prince Louis as you did on the occasion of his second birthday.'

Prince Louis is Kate and William's youngest son. He previously appeared in a selection of photographs taken by his mother, the Duchess of Cambridge - a keen amateur photographer - earlier this year which were released on his birthday on 23rd April. The new picture appears to have been taken on the same day.

At the time, the family of five were staying at their country residence, Anmer Hall in Norfolk, where Kate and William continued their royal duties remotely.

Recently the family of five was spotted enjoying what appeared to be a low-key summer staycation on the Isles of Scilly, where William previously visited with his family as a child.

This week William's grandmother the Queen is expected to journey to her own holiday residence, Balmoral Castle in Scotland, marking the first time she has left Windsor Castle since March.
