A new photograph has been shared by the Royal Family to celebrate Prince George's birthday. The Prince, who is the son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, turns 9 today (22 July).

The night before George's big day, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared an adorable portrait of the Prince on their social media accounts. In the image, George can be seen grinning widely for the camera, wearing a sweet blue polo shirt and seemingly spending time on a beach. Captioning the picture, the Duke and Duchess said: "George is turning 9! 🎂🎈"

It has since been revealed by the BBC that the lovely snap was taken by George's mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, to celebrate his birthday. Kate is known to be a keen photographer, and often takes portrait-style photos of her children to mark special occasions.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge aren't the only members of the Royal Family who have shared images to celebrate the Prince's birthday, either. Taking to The Royal Family social media account, a beautiful photo was shared of George standing next to his great-grandmother, Her Majesty, The Queen. In the image, the two can be seen looking happy and relaxed, with big smiles on both their faces, standing next to each other.

Prince George is the oldest of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's three children, with the couple celebrating his arrival in 2013. The Prince has two siblings; Princess Charlotte, age 7, and Prince Louis, age 4.

Happy birthday, Prince George!
