The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a memorial service to remember those lost in the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Prince William and Kate Middleton joined survivors to mark five years since the disaster and met members of Grenfell United who organised the service.

In a post shared to the Duke and Duchess’ official social media accounts the royals said they joined the event to remember those lost, explaining that, “72 people tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire at Grenfell Tower.”

They added that it was “an honour to meet the people of Grenfell United who organised the service and play a vital role providing pastoral care for those affected and advocating for families to ensure that such a tragic event is never repeated.”

Photographs of the service were also shared to the Duke and Duchess’ official social media channels. One image showed a card signed by the royals which read, “In remembrance of all those we have lost. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always.”

In other images, Prince William can be seen shaking hands with young men sitting alongside him at the service, while in another Kate talks with children from the event wearing Grenfell United t-shirts.
