Duchess of Sussex wears £5 borrowed earrings to lavish Rome wedding
It has been described as one of this year’s most glamorous weddings with a guest list boasting hollywood royalty and actual royalty to boot.
But rather than accessorising with precious jewels, the Duchess of Sussex chose to raid the jewlery box of a friend for the Roman wedding of Misha Nonoo and Mikey Hess last week.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were among the slew of high-profile guests at the wedding of New York-based designer, Nonoo and Hess, an heir to an oil and gas fortune on Friday.
The Duchess wore a partially-sheer black gown accessorised with gold vintage earrings she has long-admired, borrowed from a friend who purchased them for £5 from Portobello road a number of years ago.
The spending habits of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been scrutinised in recent months following their costly renovations to Frogmore cottage. The couple have also been criticised for their use of private jets.
The Duke and Duchess, who left five-month-old baby Archie at home, joined James Corden, the comic and presenter of The Late Late Show, Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry, and Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner at the Italian wedding on Friday.
The Duchess was the only guest asked to read at the ceremony. She was invited to choose her own reading and picked The Vow by Roger McGough.
“I vow to honour the commitment made this day which, unlike the flowers and the cake, will not wither or decay,” the poem reads.
“A promise, not to obey but to respond joyfully, to forgive and to console, for once incomplete, we now are whole.
“I vow to bear in mind that if, at times things seem to go from bad to worse, they also go from bad to better. The lost purse is handed in, the letter contains wonderful news. Trains run on time, hurricanes run out of breath, floods subside, and toast lands jam-side up.
“And with this ring, my final vow: to recall, whatever the future may bring, The love I feel for you now.”
