The Duchess of Sussex has paid tribute to photographer Peter Lindbergh, who died on Tuesday at the age of 74.

Meghan Markle posted on the Sussex Royal official Instagram account to pay her respects with a previously unseen photograph of herself and Lindbergh embracing.

The image was likely taken a few years ago, as it looks like the pair are in LA together. It was probably taken during Meghan's Vanity Fair shoot with Lindbergh for the October 2017 issue.

A second photograph posted by the Duchess is the same image shared to Lindbergh’s personal Instagram account to announce the news of his death.

The caption alongside the images says: “His work is revered globally for capturing the essence of a subject and promoting healthy ideals of beauty, eschewing photoshopping, and preferring natural beauty with minimal makeup.”

It then goes on to celebrate his work photographing the women who appeared in the September 2019 issue of British Vogue, which Markle famously guest-edited.

The issue celebrated ‘forces for change’: women in the public eye who are making a difference, including stars Salma Hayek and Jane Fonda, climate change campaigner Greta Thunberg and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden.

The caption says: “The Duchess of Sussex had worked with Peter in the past and personally chose him to shoot the 15 women on the cover for the September issue of British Vogue, which she guest edited. There is no other photographer she considered to bring this meaningful project to life.

“‘Forces for Change’ was the one of the esteemed photographer’s final published projects. He will be deeply missed.”

The German-born photographer and film director was renowned for his cinematic images and fashion shoots.

In the 1990s, he was known for his photographs of world-famous models including Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford.

It is not known how Lindbergh died.

He is survived by his wife Petra, his first wife Astrid, his four sons Benjamin, Jérémy, Simon and Joseph, and seven grandchildren.
