Duchess of Sussex 'will use six-week break to plan US launch of Sussex Royal Foundation'

The Duchess of Sussex is reported to be using her break from royal duties to prepare for the US launch of the foundation she and husband Prince Harry are setting up.

The Duke and Duchess are currently on a six-week sabbatical and thought to be in the US with their seventh-month-old son Archie and her mother Doria Ragland.

But, according to reports from the Telegraph and Daily Mail, Meghan will use some of her time to work on the charity’s launch.

It is believed the 38-year-old royal is hoping to utilise the relationships and connections she made during her former career as an actress to help promote the Sussex Royal Foundation.

As revealed by the publications the Duchess has recently met with her former publicist, Keleigh Thomas Morgan, who is a partner at celebrity PR firm Sunshine Sachs.

“This is a mission that Meghan has been on for a long time,” a source told Telegraph.

“Even in her younger years in Hollywood, she wanted to work towards creating an international charity changing lives.

“Now that she has the platform and profile of being a British royal she can truly build this plan.”

Though the Duchess is technically meant to be taking time out, according to the source Meghan is “not the type of woman who likes doing nothing; so this break actually could be seen by some as very fortuitous.”

Ms Thomas Morgan worked with the Duchess when she starred in the legal drama ‘Suits’, and was also invited as a guest to the royal wedding last May.

The Foundation was set up after the couple officially separated from their joint organisation (The Royal Foundation) with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge earlier this year.

Yahoo UK has contacted Buckingham Palace for confirmation but, according to Telegraph, Buckingham Palace has revealed that Sunshine Sachs is working with the Sussexes on their new fundraising initiative and is being paid for “privately”.

The news comes as it was revealed by a royal commentator that the late Princess Diana would be “so proud” of what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are doing with their social media platform.

Since separating from the @kensingtonroyal Instagram account they previously shared with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and launching their own Instagram account @sussexroyal in April, the couple have used their platform to highlight and champion charities of all sizes.

The Duchess’ taking an active role in trying to make the Sussex Royal Foundation a success, will likely come as no surprise after it was revealed by a royal reporter that Meghan has also been incredibly involved in running the Instagram account she shares with Prince Harry.

“It was Meghan’s idea to have white borders on all of the pictures, she wanted a constant theme,” Omid Scobie tells Yahoo UK.

“She’s very much a Hollywood millennial, she grew up in the public eye as a working actress with her social media boosting her profile. So, she knew exactly what tricks to bring along there.

“She even knew about Instagram algorithms.”

Meghan’s social media know-how appears to have paid off.

The account boasts 9.9 million followers - almost as many as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s account, which has 10.4 million and was launched in January 2015.

Meghan and Harry’s account, by comparison, was launched in April 2019. It broke a record almost immediately: it reached 1 million followers within hours of launching.
