The Duchess of Cambridge’s Valentine’s Day plans were unveiled at the beginning of this month and true to her word, Kate has not spent the day with husband William.

Instead, she visited an RAF base near Peterborough to meet young Air Cadets taking part in a skills development camp.

Wearing a vibrant red coat by Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, Kate kept the rest of her look subtle, donning her favourite Stuart Weitzman boots in a black suede style.

Her military-inspired jacket was perfect for the occasion in which she was able to sit in the cockpit of a training aircraft. Costing £760, it has already almost sold out on Net-a-Porter.

Cadet Sergeant Jordan Bertolaso, who talked the Duchess through the controls, commented: “It’s incredible to have such a high-profile royal as our patron, especially as she has strong links to the Royal Air Force with her husband being a former pilot.”

Kate was at the base as part of her role as royal patron and Honorary Air Commandant of the RAF Air Cadets. She took on the duty in December 2015 after the Duke of Edinburgh stepped down.

Just like the rest of the royal family, the Duchess has a penchant for wearing military and nautical looks on occasions such as these. Her favourite appears to be a custom-made blouse and skirt by British label Alexander McQueen.
