We’re used to seeing the Duchess of Cambridge with perfectly groomed hair: in fact, a sun-kissed shine combined with a loosely curled blow-dry has become her signature style.

And while of course it’s easy to turn up so perfectly polished with a team of experts on speed dial, this week the duchess demonstrated her own styling nous.

Appearing alongside the Duke of Cambridge on the Kensington Royal Instagram page to mark Burns Night, Middleton looked chic and understated with her mid-brown hair styled simply straight and sleek. A slightly off-centre parting delivered a touch of volume through the front, while the ends were discreetly curved in for a softer result.

In the video, the couple thanked the NHS for their tireless and crucial work, and announced their collaboration with NHS Charities Together, Scottish food and wine specialists Valvona & Crolla, and family-run bakery Fisher and Donaldson, to provide a Burns celebration lunch to the teams at NHS Tayside.

What’s more, the duchess demonstrated the power of styling to completely transform an outfit: a firm favourite, her tartan Emilia Wickstead set has been much-photographed at previous events, yet felt completely fresh thanks to the low-key hair and chic gold pearl earrings.

Finished with a warm brown smoky eye, the look was modern and understated in one. We’ll be bearing it in mind for our next Zoom meeting.
