The Duchess of Cambridge is teaming up with Roger Federer for a very special event in aid of two charitable organisations, Kensington Palace announced today (17 August).

The Duchess and Roger Federer have joined forces to hold a special tennis open which will benefit Action for Children (of which Kate is a patron) and the Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA) Tennis Foundation.

The pair are holding the event on behalf of the Laver Cup and it will see Roger Federer play other tennis stars on-court at The O2 in London.

The Laver Cup Open Practice Day will take place on Thursday 22 September and proceeds from the tickets will be split between the two charitable causes.

Ahead of the main event, the Laver Cup will be joining forces with Action for Children to offer local young people to join in a day of tennis in East London.

In a statement, Kensington Palace said that, “Her Royal Highness is passionate about supporting grassroots tennis and encouraging young people from all backgrounds to become involved in the sport.”

It added that, “the day of tennis in East London will provide children aged 8-15 with a memorable and engaging tennis experience.”

Donations to Action for Children will go towards continuing to help vulnerable children, young people and their families across the UK, while funds to the LTA Tennis Foundation will be put towards coaching programmes for children in deprived parts of the country.

The Laver Cup Open Practice Day with The Duchess of Cambridge and Roger Federer takes place on Thursday 22 September at The O2, London. Tickets for the event go on sale from Monday 22 August and are available on the Laver Cup website.
