The Duchess of Cambridge proved her sporting abilities during a tour of Northern Ireland alongside Prince William.

The Duchess got involved and kicked a football around as part of a sporting initiative, as well as trying her hand at rugby. The Duke of Cambridge also had a go at catching a rugby ball and playing football with members of the project.

The royal couple joined players, coaches and volunteers at the Sport Uniting Communities initiative.

A photograph of Kate doing an impressive football kick football while Prince William looks on, smiling, was shared to the Duke and Duchess’ official Instagram account.

There was also a snap of the pair in the City of Derry Rugby Club and a shot of Prince William about to throw a rugby ball, while local players watched his efforts.

A caption alongside the images explained that Prince William and Kate had visited the sporting project which “is a collaboration between the Irish Football Association, Ulster Gaelic Athletic Association and Ulster Rugby and aims to promote peace and reconciliation.”

It went onto explain that, “Sport Uniting Communities uses the reach of each sport to promote meaningful, purposeful and sustained contact between individuals from different backgrounds – particularly across the religious divide – building and fostering relationships.”

Before joining in the sports activities, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge toured Ulster University campus, meeting student nurses and sampling local food and drink.

For the visit, Kate wore a stunning, bold purple suit, before changing into a black sports ensemble for the football and rugby activities later in the day.
