The Duchess of Cambridge plays tennis with Emma Raducanu
The Duchess of Cambridge joined US Open champion Emma Raducanu for a friendly game of tennis this morning (24 September). The pair met on the court at the National Tennis Centre homecoming event in London.
The pair were casually dressed in co-ordinating navy and white sportswear for the occasion, with Raducanu in a Nike top and shorts, and the duchess in a tennis skirt and matching zip-up jacket from French sportswear brand Poivre Blanc. After they played the pair sat down for a chat, with Kate referring to the 18-year-old as "seriously impressive".
The duchess is a keen tennis fan and is regularly seen attending the Wimbledon championships. She has been patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club since taking over from the Queen in 2016.
The celebratory event was hosted by the Lawn Tennis Association to mark the success of the British players at the US Open - including Raducanu, alongside Joe Salisbury, Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett. Raducanu made history when she became Britain's first female Grand Slam winner in 44 years.
Alongside the tennis court appearances, the event included a live Q&A with the players as well as a selection of other tennis activities, with the idea being to inspire a new generation of players to take up the sport.
"Tennis is an unbelievable sport, it gives you so many opportunities and is so fun," said Raducanu, shortly after returning from the US following her historic win. "It would be great for more kids to pick up a racket and try it. LTA Youth courses are a perfect way for everyone to get started."
