Why the Duchess of Cambridge and Doria Ragland were not at Meghan's baby shower

The Duchess of Sussex returned to London on Thursday morning, having spent around five days in New York catching up with some of her closest friends.

Serena Williams, Amal Clooney, Jessica Mulroney and Abigail Spencer were among the celebrity pals present at her baby shower at The Mark hotel in the Upper East Side.

However, the Duchess of Cambridge and Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland did not appear to have attended the bash.

But there’s a good explanation for their absence.

Sources told BAZAAR.com that NYC baby shower is the first of two. A smaller gathering has apparently been scheduled for friends in the UK after Meghan returns from her trip to Morocco this weekend.

According to Elle.com, Doria is expected to attend celebrations in the UK.

It has also been widely reported this week that the Duchess of Cambridge is spending time with her young family during the half term holidays.

Kate and William, who are parents to George, five, Charlotte, three, and nine-month-old Louis, are believed to be on a skiing trip, The Sun reports.
