Jeff Buckley (1966-1997)
The acclaimed musician - known for his 1994 album 'Grace' - passed away aged 30 on 29 May, 1997. Buckley was in the middle of a recording session when he decided to go to Mississippi’s Wolf River Harbor to take a break and go for a swim fully clothed. But after entering the water he never came out. His body was discovered a couple days later, and he was pronounced dead. While authorities eventually determined that he died of an accidental drowning, with no traces of substances in his system.©BANG Showbiz - 3/11
Jack Nance (1943-1996)
Jack Nance - who starred in David Lynch’s surrealist horror ‘Eraserhead’ - died when he was 53 on 21 December, 1996. Nance had got into an altercation with two men in the morning and later in the afternoon he met with friends for coffee. Arriving with a black eye, the actor told his friends that he'd gotten into a brawl and had "got what I deserved". The day continued normally, but his body was found less than 24 hours later in his apartment. Eventually, authorities determined that the severe blows to his head contributed to his passing, as he had also refused to go to a hospital. Linda Darnell (1923-1965)
The ‘Forever Amber’ star died on April 10, 1965 aged 41. Linda passed after being trapped in house a fire at a property owned by her secretary in Glenview, Illinois, Darnell got stuck on the second floor of the house unable to escape. When she was found by fire-fighters she had burns on 80 percent of her body and she later died in hospital from her injuries. Bob Crane (1928-1978)
The ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ actor, passed away at age 49 in 1978, in what was a bizarre case that is still a mystery. Crane’s body was found in his Scottsdale, Arizona, home with evident signs of violence, including a cord tied around his neck. However, no struggle or forced entry signs were found. Authorities quickly drew their attention to Crane’s friend, John Carpenter, who had been hanging out with the star prior to his passing. While Crane’s blood was found in Carpenter’s car, authorities were unable to determine he was guilty, as the DNA tests conducted were inconclusive. Crane and Carpenter were said to have been voyeurs who enjoyed filming their joint sexual experiences with women. According to Crane’s son, this could have been a key factor in a potential altercation between the star and his pal. According to Fox 10 Phoenix, Crane Jr. said: “Towards the end of his life, my dad was definitely pulling away from John Carpenter.”©BANG Showbiz - 6/11
Ramón Novarro (1899-1968)
The ‘Across To Singapore' star died aged 69 in 1968, after welcoming brothers Paul and Tom Ferguson into his Los Angeles home. The two men had called Novarro and offered their sexual services. The Latin American star had hired prostitutes from an agency to come to his Laurel Canyon home for sex in the past and the Fergusons obtained Novarro's telephone number from a previous guest. The Fergusons incorrectly believed there was a large sum of money at the property and tortured Novarro for several hours to make him reveal where the cash was stored. They ultimately left the house with $20 they took from his bathrobe pocket, but Novarro died as a result of asphyxiation, having choked to death on his own blood after being beaten. When authorities arrived in his apartment, they found the phrase “Us girls are better than f******" written in a mirror, suggesting homophobia as a motive behind the crime. Sonny Bono (1935-1998)
Sonny Bono - famous for being the musical and romantic partner of Cher, before they divorced in 1975 - died aged 62 in 1998, after having a strange accident. It took place when he was skiing in the California’s Sierra Nevada area, when he hit a tree. The strange thing in Sonny’s case is that his cause of death has been compared to the son of Robert Kennedy, Michael Kennedy, who died in a similar accident only a couple of days before, but in Colorado.©BANG Showbiz - 8/11
Tennessee Williams (1911-1983)
The Pulitzer prize winning playwright - who wrote 'A Streetcar Named Desire’ - died aged 71 on February 25, 1983. His lifeless body was found in a New York City hotel room, and the case was initially investigated as an accidental overdose, potentially caused after Williams’ long battle with depression. However, authorities later determined that the playwright died of asphyxiation, after choking on a bottle cap.©BANG Showbiz - 9/11
David Carradine (1936-2009)
The ‘Kill Bill’ star and martial artist, died in June 2009 aged 72 in Bangkok, Thailand, whilst he was in the country to shoot his latest film 'Stretch'. His lifeless and naked body was found in the closet of a hotel room hanging from a curtain cord. The rope was tied to both his neck and genitals, leading police to believe he passed from accidental suffocation due to auto-erotic asphyxiation. Thelma Todd (1906-1935)
The ‘Monkey Business’ actress was found dead aged just 29 on December 16, 1935. Her body was discovered in her chocolate-colored 1934 Lincoln Phaeton convertible inside the garage of Jewel Carmen, a former actress and wife of Todd's lover and business partner Roland West. While it was determined that she died of carbon monoxide poisoning, her body showed trauma signs after being found unconscious over the steering wheel of her vehicle. At the time of her death, the Los Angeles Times reported that authorities targeted three men as potential suspects for her murder: her ex-husband Pat DiCicco, her then-partner and Mafia gangster Lucky Luciano. Brian Jones (1942-1969)
The Rolling Stones guitarist died aged 27 on 3 July, 1969. Jones’ body was found motionless at the bottom of his swimming pool at his East Sussex home. He was pronounced upon his arrival at hospital. His tragic passing came just a month after he was dismissed by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts from the rock band he had founded. It has been claimed that Jones was murdered by builder Frank Thorogood - who had been working at the property - in a row over money.©BANG Showbiz
