Drone Captures Shark Hunt and Bait Ball Off NY Island
A Long Island photographer captured footage of several sharks on the hunt off New York’s Fire Island recently, with the video also showing the resulting “bait ball” as the hunted fish go on the defensive.
Duncan Weir’s video shows several sharks disturb a school of fish below the surface. In a later clip, the resulting bait ball is seen near the surface.
So-called bait balls are a defensive measure taken by schools of fish when larger predators are near.
