Drivers stunned as they discover 'secret' compartment in the glove box of their cars
A car expert, known to her online followers as 'Driver Ms May', has revealed a 'secret' compartment in the glove box that many were unaware of. The motoring guru, who regularly shares lesser-known vehicle features with her online audience, recently highlighted how to remove a car's wing mirror glass and unlock a car when the fob battery is dead.
In her latest revelation on TikTok, Ms May also disclosed a hidden section at the back of the glove box, stating: "If there's a strange smell in the car or the air conditioner isn't cooling, we just need to open the glove box."
She then demonstrated a 'button' at the back, instructing viewers to "press" and "lift upwards", causing the glove box to drop down and revealing a cover to pry open. "The glove box will then fall down. Then we pry open this cover. Take out the air conditioner filter inside," she continued, removing a dust-laden filter. "Wow, no wonder the car is so smelly. Spend $5 (£4), buy a new air conditioner filter and install it back. The method is very simple."

Many had no idea there was a compartment located at the back of the glove box. One person said: "Do all cars have those secret compartments?" to which one person wrote: "Yes, but the more European the car the harder it is to access it." A third wrote: "It's quite helpful. Do it yourself rather than sending to workshop with an unbelievable charge."
According to Car and Driver, the filter, known as the 'cabin air filter', is located behind the glove box in most cars. You can also look in your car's manual to find out more information about how to remove it.
Motoring expert Scotty Kilmer previously explained: "It's called the cabin air filter. You squeeze the glove box and it comes out. If you look inside there's a cover that snaps off and out comes the cabin air filter.
"This filters the air that goes into your air conditioning and heating system. Clean it out once in a while by whacking it on concrete until all the crumbs come out of it. If it's real dirt you can go and replace it. My advice is buy it online cheaper because the auto parts store charges too much. And if you're really sensitive to smells like my wife, you can buy a black carbon-activated one like this that works better."
