Since giving up acting, noughties icon Drew Barrymore has shifted her focus from films to her family and her mental health too. Just a few days after announcing she's secretly been sober for the last two years, the Charlie's Angels star took to social media to share how she'll be putting her "wellness first" and shunning pressure to lose weight in the New Year.

Speaking to her 14.8 million followers, the 46-year-old candidly opened up about the importance of self-care when it comes to her mental wellbeing. Alongside a photo of a set of weighing scales (with a post-it note that reads, "Say something kind to yourself") she wrote: "The point of wellness to me is the mental! I am exhausted from work. I don’t care what the number says!"

"But," she continued, "I feel bloated from eating like crap. Sleeping too little. Working so much. I have a week off and I plan to scrape those barnacles! I need a redo reboot. And it doesn’t matter what my number is. I wanted to start to show my beginning of the week, to show myself what I was capable of, if I had a week to actually practice that term 'self-care'."

Sharing how she intends to focus on her self-care, Barrymore revealed she'll be eating healthily, meditating, going for walks and "staying balanced" which she admits is "just hard to do in the middle of real life."

As for what she hopes to achieve by taking a week off to centre herself, the 50 First Dates actor added: "It will be a fun journey to just see how I can totally take care of myself and put wellness first. Which is just not an option most of the time. Which is I guess why they call it balance." And her plans seemed to go down well with friends and fellow celebs, with her post racking up nearly 100k likes in just a few hours and plenty of support in the comments section.

Her decision to "reboot" her mental health comes shortly after she opened up about quitting alcohol. Speaking to TV host Gayle King, Drew admitted that she was previously stuck in a bad cycle but had broke out of that "pattern."

"I'm in a lifestyle [now] that I know is really working on a high road for my little journey, and there's so much peace finally being had where there were demons."

We support you, Drew!
