Drew Barrymore has opened up about why she stopped acting in films, explaining why you won't see her returning to screens any time soon.

You might have noticed it's been some time since you saw Drew Barrymore on the big screen, and it turns out there's a very specific reason for it, according to Barrymore who spoke to Sirius XM about her decision to quit acting in films, saying it's not about to change.

"I stopped doing movies when my kids were born," she told show host Andy Cohen. "Because I’ve done it since I was in diapers - at 11 months old is when I started - and it was a no brainer to me to put making movies on a back-burner so that I can be present and raise my kids myself."

She explained that at the moment, she has no interest in being on a film set, but added "that could change when my kids are older."

Barrymore shares two children with ex-husband actor Will Kopelman, 8-year-old daughter Olive and 6-year-old daughter Frankie. Barrymore and her husband split in 2016 after four years of marriage. Their break-up was finalised just three weeks after they initially filed for divorce.

During the interview Barrymore also spoke about the difficult time she went through as a result of the divorce, saying that it was her Netflix show Santa Clarita Diet that "saved" her.

"I couldn’t have loved [SCD] more and it really saved me... I had lost my way, I was going through a really difficult divorce in that it just was the worst thing and everything I didn’t want to happen and that’s what made it difficult."
