It's safe to say that none of us exactly feel at our best in a shop changing room, what with all that fluorescent lighting and those soul-destroying mirrors that show you what you actually look like from behind...

(We really didn't need to know, thanks.)

But now, a psychologist is on a mission to change women's attitudes to their bodies and spread positivity, the Independent reports.

Calling it the 'Dressing Room Challenge' in her post on Facebook, US psychologist Dr Susan Albers explains she wants to change the way we all self-critique in front of the mirror.

Explaining that she had overheard two women exchanging negative about themselves in a shop dressing room, the psychologist realised that we all need a lesson in body confidence.

'Take what I call the "Dressing Room Challenge",' she urged in her post, alongside a selfie of herself in the changing room mirror. 'Don't let your inner critic enter the dressing room with you. Leave her behind. Have fun in there. Say something affirming to yourself. Or, if that is too difficult, try directing positive vibes to someone else.'

Adding that she often spreads the love by complimenting other women in changing rooms, Albers urged others to do the same:

'Whenever I see a stranger who is looking in the full-length mirror, and I genuinely like what she has tried on, I don't hesitate to tell her she looks absolutely amazing.

'Watch her reaction. I invite you to do the same.'
