Melatonin, a hormone your body produces in response to darkness, helps regulate your sleep-wake cycle and can be used as a supplement to help you conk out at night, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH). The NCCIH cites research that found people who used melatonin fell asleep faster and stayed asleep longer than those who took a placebo.
