Dothan student publishes children’s book

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A young author has emerged from Circle City to spread awareness of an often overlooked topic.

Caelyn Dolar’s book, Lily’s New Pump, is available at Barnes and Noble, Target, Walmart, and Amazon.

Lily’s New Pump tells the story of a young girl with diabetes who learns the ups, downs, and arounds of a new insulin pump.

Dolar, a student at Dothan High School, says she wrote the book to reach children with diabetes and show them that their struggles do not go unheard.

“I wrote this book based on the experiences I have been told by my sister and various children from Camp Seale Harris,” said Dolar. “I wrote this book to show other children who don’t have diabetes what it’s like for their friends and family and why it’s important we love and support them.”

The book’s proceeds will be donated to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the American Diabetes Association, and Camp Seale Harris.

Along with being a newly published author, Dolar operates Let’s Be DiaBesties, a non-profit organization that sells apparel to support the above-named organizations.

Dolar says she will start her donation journey at home by giving every Dothan City School System school a copy of her book.
