Why Dorothy Perkins might want to take another look at their new hashtag

Fashion brands are constantly inventing clever hashtags designed to get social media buzzing, but Dorothy Perkins latest offering has been attracting attention for all the wrong reasons.

The High Street retailer, is currently asking fashion bloggers, celebrities and Dotty P fans to share posts with the hashtag #LoveDP. So far, so harmless. But, as well as standing for Dorothy Perkins (obvs) the abbreviation DP has a far more saucy alternative.

Apologies if you’re having your breakfast, but for those not in the know (and we have to admit we were one of them until we read it in the Metro this morning!) but the letters DP also stands for, ahem, double penetration.

Google it. Actually don’t, we’ll enlighten you. It actually refers to a sexual act that involves two people putting their penises into two holes in another person. I’m sure we don’t need to actually spell out to which holes we are referring (use your imagination!).

It won’t come as a surprise that the Internet is having a jolly good laugh about the gaff at Dotty P’s expense.

“@Dorothy_Perkins someone needs to reconsider your #LoveDP hashtag on insta. You could get some weird things mixed up. Google it,” one user wrote.

“Oooooer Dorothy….Which intern is getting fired for this gaff? #loveDP,” another added.

“It’s been worth being dragged around shops by Mrs Chris to find out that Dorothy Perkins now uses thr slogan #LoveDP,” one man joked.

“And today’s advertising fail goes to Dorothy Perkins for their NSFW campaign hashtag #lovedp,” yet another user added.

“How did the Dorothy Perkins marketing team think promoting the use of the hashtag #LoveDP was a good idea?!!”

Perhaps the marketing bods at Dorothy Perkins are such an innocent bunch that they didn’t know the ‘other’ meaning of the abbreviation, but some social media users have questioned whether they actually knew that adopting the hashtag would create the stir it has.

“Can’t decide if Dorothy Perkins: 1. didn’t think that hashtag through. 2. know exactly what they’re doing,” one user wrote.

So genius marketing campaign or innocent faux pas? Either way you can’t help but think that the whole thing is complete LOLZ.

Who loves DP? We do! *winky face emoji*
