Donald Trump's older sister has branded her brother cruel, unprincipled and phoney in recordings made in 2018 and 2019.
The comments of the former federal judge were recorded by Trump's niece, Mary, who in July released an explosively damning book about the the president entitled Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man. The recordings are legal under New York law and were first reported on by The Washington Post.
The 83-year-old was watching a Fox News interview with her younger brother when he said he wanted to put her on the southern border to oversee immigration cases, while children were being separated from their families at detention centres.
“His base, I mean my God, if you were a religious person, you want to help people,” Barry says during the recording. “Not do this.”
She goes on to chastise “the phoniness of it all … the phoniness and this cruelty. Donald is cruel.”
Mary Trump asks Barry what Trump reads on the subject, to which she replies: “No. He doesn’t read" before decrying "His goddamned tweet and lying, oh my God."
“I’m talking too freely, but you know. The change of stories," she adds. "The lack of preparation. The lying. Holy shit.”
Trump himself doesn't seem to have taken the comments too badly, sharing a statement that said: "Every day it's something else, who cares."
