Dolce & Gabbana is no stranger to stirring up controversy. In the past, the Italian designers have come under fire for naming a pair of shoes "slave sandals," calling in vitro children "synthetic" and most recently, for voicing their support to dress Melania Trump.

Today, it's a pair of embellished white sneakers causing social media users to lash out against the Italian fashion brand. The Fall 2017 sneakers in question are adorned with studs, sequins and quirky messages scribbled in marker and pen. One of those messages reads, "I'M THIN & GORGEOUS," in all caps-something that commenters were quick to point to as problematic when Stefano Gabbana shared an illustration of the shoe on Instagram.

Instagram users wasted no time calling out the designer in the comments section. "You don't think it's a little unresponsible [sic] to push a message of 'Thin and gorgeous'? I hope this will be followed by a message of inclusion of all bodies?" @anna.elisabeth.olsson wrote. Another commenter, @rossy_rl added, "thin?! 😵 I'm disappointed!"

Making matters worse, Gabbana wrote back to some of the negative commenters on Instagram in a series of comments that were even more problematic than the sneakers themselves. In one cringe-worthy message, Gabbana wrote, "u think is better to be fat full of hamburger??? Stupid," and another from the designer read, "darling you prefer to be fat and full of cholesterol??? I think u have a problem."

Aside from Gabbana's comments on his personal Instagram, the brand has yet to respond to the backlash against the sneakers.
