Fancy creating a dog home for your loyal four-legged friend? Well now pet owners can get all the inspiration they need with the internationally acclaimed exhibition, Architecture for Dogs, which is coming to Japan House London in Kensington from Saturday 19 September 2020.

Dogs have more than proved their value as comforting companions during the coronavirus pandemic, with 8 in 10 dog owners saying their pet was extremely important to their mental wellbeing during lockdown, according to research by Pet Munchies.

Now, the Architecture for Dogs exhibition will offer guests a fun way to explore the interaction between humans and their four legged friends through the specially designed architectural pieces.

There will be 16 architectural designs for different dog breeds – including the Beagle, Bichon Frise and Poodle – by world class architects such as Ban Shigeru, Kuma Kengo and Sou Fujimoto, each capturing the quality of the relationship between dogs and their owners.

Better still, there are downloadable blueprints for each design, so you can go away and build a piece of dog architecture yourself at home.

Other highlights at the exhibiton include:

Architecture For Long-Bodied Short-Legged Dogs: Created by the renowned architectural practice Atelier Bow-Wow, this exhibit is perfect for smaller dogs to interact with.

Candy floss cocoon: Inspired by the distinct fur of the Bichon Frise, architect Sejima Kazuyo creates a hideaway where dog and structure blend into one.

A new home for Snoopy? Presented by MVRDV, this exhibit is a playful take on the dog house with an interactive toy which is also a stimulating environment for the intelligent Beagle breed to enjoy.

Who’s the prettiest of them all? Poodles are known for loving their own reflection and in this exhibit Konstantin Grcic creates a fun mirror-led structure for pooches to gaze at themselves!

Visitors can explore the exhibition in person at Japan House London, or alternatively, immerse themselves in virtual experiences such as a 3D tour, online talks and 'live' guided tours, should they prefer to enjoy it from the comfort of their own home.

If you do visit, there will be social distancing measures in place and a newly-introduced booking system. Visitors will be required to wear a face mask. Guests will also be able to shop a range of canine-related items from Japan.

The stellar Architecture for Dogs exhibition first launched at Design Miami back in 2012, and has since been touring globally around Japan, China and Brazil. For the first time, it will be showcasing in the UK, so you definitely don't want to miss out.
