Trump's White House return
Currently, Donald Trump is legally still not president and is known as the president-elect, with his running mate JD Vance set to become the vice-president elect.
The republican winner will be sworn in at the presidential inauguration which is currently set to take place on Monday, January 20, 2025. From this point, he will legally hold the powers and responsibilities which come with the presidency.
President-elect Trump and vice-president-elect JD Vance will work with their transition team to organise the handover from Joe Biden’s administration.
"They will identify their policy priorities, start vetting the candidates who will take up key roles in the new administration, and prepare to take over the functions of government," according to reports in the BBC.
What will the president-elect and vice do before the inauguration?
Trump and his team will also begin receiving classified national security briefings covering current threats and ongoing military operations. The president-elect and vice also receive mandatory protection from the US Secret Service.
The outgoing president usually invites the incoming president to the White House in the days after the election. It is normally expected for them to also attend the inauguration to symbolise the peaceful transfer of power.

However back in 2020 Trump chose to boycott the ceremony, but did however leave a letter which president Biden told reporters at the time was "a very generous letter”. After the inauguration, the new president begins work immediately.
On Wednesday, November 6, Trump took to the stage in West Palm Beach, Florida to address supporters, was joined by his running mate JD Vance, House Speaker Mike Johnson, golfer Bryson DeChambeau and UFC CEO Dana White.
He was also joined by his children and grandchildren who gathered on the stage, who have been a firm support to him throughout his political campaign drive.
During his speech mere hours before officially being confirmed as US president, Trump said: "Look what happened - is this crazy?" - adding: "I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th president.
"I will fight for you and your family and your future, every single day I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body."
