Remember the early days of the MCU, when Tom Hiddleston's Loki was everyone's favorite character? The God of Mischief, who first showed up in 2011's Thor, was ahead of his time. Charismatic, complicated, and cool as hell, the trickster embodies the sort of fun-to-root-for antihero we'd see later in Marvel's storytelling when we got to Guardians of the Galaxy—and maybe even WandaVision.

For all of you Hiddlestans: Time to celebrate, because Loki—Marvel's long-planned TV series featuring the OG Thor villain—just got a release date. It'll hit Disney+ on June 11, 2021, making Loki Marvel's third show on the new-ish streaming service. By the looks of it? Between The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki, Hiddleston's jam might just be the most important addition for the ever-expanding MCU. Considering we have a nearly three-minute-long trailer to dive into, let's get to it. Here's everything we know about Disney+'s Loki so far.

When Will Loki Premiere on Disney+?

After a long-reported release date of May 2021, Loki will hit the service not too much later on June 11, 2021. Rewatch any Thor romp if you need your Hiddleston fix sooner than that.

What Will Loki be About, and How Will it Fit Into the MCU's Multiverse?

All right. Before we get started, you should know that Marvel's really in the weeds now with its time-traveling, multiverse bullshittery. It's all good stuff! Just a lot to get through. Put a helmet on or something. Got it? OK.

In Avengers: Endgame, Cap, Iron Man, etc. are in full Infinity-Stone-collecting mode. When they're out time-traveling to snag the Tesseract, the crew goes to the scene in 2012's Avengers flick when Loki/the Tesseract are in the process of being locked up. The whole thing goes a little bit sideways. The briefcase holding the Tesseract (why hold something like that in a glorified office briefcase?!) flips open, Loki grabs it, and teleports straight out of there. In the Loki trailer, we learn that the Asgardian wakes up in the middle of a strange desert. So, first thing to note: The Loki of Loki is not the same Loki we watched die at the end of the Infinity Saga. This is the bratty, shitty Loki from the first Avengers film. Told you this is a lot.

But we're not done. Now, let's look at that trailer. It tells us that Loki ends up in the middle of a strange desert. He's eventually found by a guy named Mobius M. Mobius, who, aside from having a GOAT name, is played by Owen Wilson. In the comics, Mobius works for the Time Variance Authority (TVA), an organization that regulates the multiverse. Which we know is about to be a huge deal in the MCU, considering the rotating Pietros in WandaVision and the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the preview, Mobius leads Loki through some kind of trial and expostion-dumping montage. Meaning: It's likely that Mobius has been tasked with making sure that Loki doesn't screw around in the new universe he landed in, and maybe even telling him that his old timeline would lead to his death at the hands of Thanos. That'll probably make up Loki's first few episodes.

Here's where things get interesting, though. Watch the back half of the preview again. And consider that a promotional image for Loki showed the antihero back in the '70s, in addition to early reports that the guy would show up during key events in history. Think about the suit, the corporate-looking plane, and the time-traveling. Doesn't it look like Loki is working for the TVA? It's a little tough to think of any other theory here. That way, Loki would somehow evade whatever multiverse jail exists in the MCU by becoming a TVA agent. Which would make for a pretty badass show: Loki time-traveling, multiverse-hopping, and busting up trouble throughout world history. You down for that? I'm down for that. We're only a few months away.
