'What a disgrace' - Jamie Carragher slams refereeing decisions made during Copenhagen v Man Utd
Jamie Carragher was not impressed by some of the decisions during Manchester United's shock Champions League defeat to Copenhagen. The Red Devils were involved in a seven-goal thriller in Denmark, but they left empty-handed despite leading on two occasions.
Erik ten Hag's men led 2-0 until Marcus Rashford was sent off, and the Danes came back to level before the break. A penalty decision in favour of United allowed the Red Devils to go 3-2 up, but Copenhagen rallied to complete the comeback, with Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghji scoring within three minutes leading up to the 87th minute to secure the win.
Though, the decisions made in Denmark will be heavily debated, with Rashford seemingly accidentally catching his opponent high on the leg, though VAR's slow replay did not help the forward's case, something Carragher highlighted in an enraged tweet.
He said: "No way is that a red card for Rashford! Hate these slow motion replays & still images that make everything look 10 times worse."
Though, while United fans may not agree with that decision, they did benefit from a decision later in the game when a handball was given in their favour. Harry maguire headed the ball onto the arm of a Copenhagen player, and again, while it looked like an unavoidable handball in real time, it looked a lot worse in slow motion, leading to the penalty being given.
Once again weighing in on X, Carragher also criticised that decision, posting no fewer than 10 laughing faces before saying: "The game has gone! Get rid of VAR, that’s a disgrace."
The defeat leaves United in trouble, bottom of their group and one point behind both Galatasaray and Copenhagen, while Bayern Munich can no longer be caught. Ten Hag's men still have to play Galatasaray in Turkey and Bayern Munich at home.
