When fans turned to Twitter to ask for help with figuring out who killed Gail Vella in Line Of Duty, we're not sure this is what they had in mind. A BBC website apparently just accidentally leaked a season six spoiler, by revealing a 'major actor' was joining the line up.

We already know no-nonsense Detective Chief Superintendent Patricia Carmichael is making a comeback, but The Sun are reporting BBC Maestro, an online platform for budding screenwriters, accidentally revealed a big name celebrity was joining the line up this week.

Apparently the gaffe revealed the actor's identity with a photo from an upcoming episode, which shows AC-12’s DI Steve Arnott, played by Martin Compston, looking over a database of faces. A short scene featuring the ~mysterious~ character was also shown.

Despite the accidental spoiler, the name of the actor is being kept secret, though names like Richard Madden and Idris Elba have been thrown in the ring.

Thankfully, it doesn't look like Line Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio is too worried about the leak, commenting (via MailOnline): "The outstanding detective work of eagle-eyed Line Of Duty fans has been awarded a glowing commendation from the gaffer himself, Supt Ted Hastings. Their call-up papers for AC-12 are in the post!"
